Taking Control – Fibroids and Heavy Bleeding

A woman’s menstrual cycle is different for all of us. Let’s face it, we are all individuals and like everything else, we all have different mental physical and emotional experiences – no two women are the same. So dealing with heavy bleeding is a very traumatic situation!

My period used to be a 7-day cycle – and quite light. I have never suffered from heavy periods, excruciating stomach pains, prolonged period sickness or stress. However, over the past few years my menstrual cycle has changed drastically – with blood loss and what I didn’t know at the time, I didn’t realize I was becoming anemic!

My periods were no longer normal – my cycle would go from 9 days to 28 days straight with bleeding in between! Was it early menopause or was fibroids to blame! I need to find out and fast!!!

Bleeding can be a cause for concern if it occurs during menstruation, after intercourse, or if you are over 50 and have been through menopause. They say that the risk of cancer increases with age, so make sure you get regular checkups.

If you completely soak a sanitary napkin or tampon every hour for 2-3 hours in a row, this is considered a very difficult period. A prolonged period is one that lasts longer than 7 days.

I also noticed that sometimes my blood loss continued even after 2 months (which included a few days of very light bleeding). My doctor didn’t realize I was anemic at the time – his response was – just watch how long the bleeding continues – and get back in touch soon! Even months later, he couldn’t believe how much weight I had lost, and it never occurred to him that I was anemic! It took my doctor 3 months to diagnose me with anemia!

When I visited the doctor and after talking about the problem, I was prescribed iron tablets (ferrous sulfate), which I took for a few weeks, then I learned about herbal supplements, which were a much healthier option, so I decided to change the medicine! Reason for switching because the side effects were constipation and my stool was very dark.

If you decide to take the medicine listed above, first consult your doctor and find out what the side effects are. There are other medicines that cannot be taken at the same time as ferrous sulphate – so ask. I have to say that when I started taking the iron replacement pills and the prescribed supplements, my period became regular and I still continue to take the appropriate supplements with no side effects and they are made of pure natural products.
